It was just one of those conversations, in the middle of the night and the world is asleep. Two girls talking about religion and death. It happens because a teacher we both knew, but never taught us, had passed away recently.

Me: To me, death is just a big nothing. It's like, once you die, you're in this eternal nothingness, a blank. It's scary, because life goes on around you, but you're not a part of it anymore. But then again, after you die, you don't know about this nothingness... So it's not that bad after you're dead.

Kerry: The thing is, I believe in life after death. Which is why I'm afraid all my sins on earth will catch up with me. It's about living with a conscience. If you believe there's nothing after this, what have you got to lose?

Being the fairly logical person Kerry is, it surprised me a great deal to hear that from her.

I needed proof to start believing in God.

"Well, I think every Christian has proof. But it's sort of individual to a person, so you might not be able to understand it. Proof is logical and factual, so I doubt you'll believe it even if God came up to you and said hi. God is a leap of faith."

"I hope you do believe one day."

I hope so too.
