Reasons why I love my Andii, my sister and my best friend:

- When I was 11, she prayed that I would be safe while she herself was blindfolded and afraid.

- When I was 14, her birthday card to me showed a beautiful photograph of two little girls hugging each other. Inside she wrote, "Happy birthday, my baby sister."

- When I was 15 and distant, she bought me a photo frame with a pair of ballet shoes at the side. And she quoted Block, "Shoes are for dancing, not for running away."

- When I was 16 and insecure, she laid beside me while I pretended to be asleep, stroked my abdomen and told me, "You are the most beautiful girl in the world."

- When I was 17, she was right there with me so it wouldn't hurt that something inside me should die.

- When I was 18 and she was a new mother, (the two of us alone in the hospital room), we giggled and laughed and contemplated how to hold Laurel in our arms (without breaking her neck).

Today in the car, my grandma told us how Aunt Lee would cry at the thought of her sister being ill. She would be driving, and then she would burst into tears. Over lunch, we both revealed to each other that when we heard that, we couldn't help tearing up because in that moment, we had both imagined what it would be like to be in her position, to have her dear sister ill like that. When we said it, we both spotted red, teary eyes and it made us giggle. I said, "This is a bit lame! The next table probably thinks we're strange."

She laughed and then told me that I deserved someone who could love me the best way possible, to be able to take care of me. Never let yourself be bullied, or let a boy make you feel not enough again.
